Short-Term and Long-Term Personal Savings

At Great Southern Bank, we offer savings plans for businesses as well as individuals. These help our customers reach their personal financial goals or have cash reserves for unexpected emergencies. Whether you’re saving for the long-term or just putting aside a little cash for the holidays, we have your ideal account for personal savings. All of our deposit accounts are FDIC insured. Services and fees are subject to change. Our savings products include:

Money Market Savings

A money market savings account earns a rate of interest at the market rate, subject to change at any time. Interest will be compounded and credited to your account every statement cycle. A $1,500 deposit is needed to open this account. A monthly service charge of $5.25 is assessed if the collected balance falls below $1,500 on any day of the statement cycle. A total of 6 transfers or withdrawals payable to third parties are allowed per statement cycle at no charge. Items in excess of this limit per statement cycle are charged $10 each.

Money Market Plus Savings

This is a market rate savings account with limited check writing. A minimum of $10,000 is required to open this account, with no interest being earned on days when the balance is lower. Interest is compounded and credited to your account on the monthly statement cycle date. A monthly $20 service charge incurs if the collected balance falls below $10,000. You can make 6 transfers or withdrawals to third parties per statement cycle at no cost. Items in excess of this limit are charged $10 each. Deposit items over 30 receive an activity charge of $.07 per item.

Daily Savings

This account offers a competitive rate of interest—subject to change at any time—that is compounded and credited to your account quarterly. 6 phone transfers are allowed per month with unlimited over-the-counter withdrawals and unlimited online transfers. A monthly $3 service charge is assessed if the collected balance of your account falls below $450 on any day of the statement cycle. There is no monthly activity charge unless the total number of credit items deposited exceeds 30; then, a $.07 activity fee per item may be assessed. A $100 deposit is needed to open this account.

Individual Retirement Accounts

An IRA is a special savings plan that lets you put aside the money you earned today to be used later for your retirement. We offer traditional IRAs with tax-deferred earnings, Roth IRAs with tax-free earnings, and education IRAs with tax-fraee earnings. See us for more details. Health Savings Accounts

Regular Savings

This account is a great way to start planning for the future, offering convenience and flexibility as you save. With an initial minimum deposit of just $50, you receive a competitive interest rate—subject to change at any time—compounded and credited to your account semi-annually. There is no monthly charge for daily collected balances of more than $100. There is, however, a $2.00 monthly maintenance fee if your balance falls below $100.

You can make up to 2 withdrawals each month at no charge. A $1 fee is assessed for each withdrawal after that, regardless of balance. There is no monthly activity charge unless the total number of credit items deposited exceeds 30; then, a $.07 activity fee per item may be assessed.

Student Savings

Teach good savings habits early by opening a student savings account for your child. Besides encouraging minors to learn financial responsibility, this account pays a competitive interest rate—subject to change at any time—compounded and credited to your account semi-annually. There’s no minimum balance requirement, no monthly maintenance fee, and no fee for withdrawals, though there is a $50 minimum for opening. The account automatically converts to our regular savings account at age 19 and applicable fees will apply.

Christmas Club

Christmas Club offers a plan for saving money. Flexible deposit options are available. Automatic transfer from your checking account to your Christmas club account is available in increments of $5 per transfer. These can be done weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly. A check for the balance of the account is mailed each November.

Certificates of Deposit

Certificates of deposit accounts let you take advantage of higher interest rates based on market trends. With a $500 minimum, we can structure a certificate of deposit from 30 days to 60 months to fit your needs. We offer competitive rates with interest compounded and credited quarterly. Interest is compounded and credited at maturity for CDs maturing in less than a year.

You have a choice of depositing your interest into one of your deposit accounts, or adding it to your certificate. Please call for current interest rates.
